ICCAS (Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)) was founded in 1956. ICCAS is a multi-disciplinary research institute dedicated to the basic research in broad fields of chemical sciences, and to the key developments of the innovative high-technology aiming to the imperative national needs and important strategic targets, as well as to the collaborative high-technology applications and transfers. ICCAS is one of China,s leading chemistry research institutions with high international reputation.
ICCAS,s major research areas include polymer science, physical chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and inorganic chemistry. The institute focuses on the following fields: the frontiers of molecular and nano sciences, organic and polymeric materials, chemical biology, as well as energy and green chemistry.
Since its establishment, ICCAS has received more than 300 National, Ministry and regional awards. For more than a decade, ICCAS has been among the top institutions in China in terms of SCI publications and SCI citations. The continuous increase of the number of high impact journal papers demonstrates the strength and ability of the ICCAS for innovative basic research. ICCAS also leads on the number of patent application and patent award among the institutes of the CAS. A number of them have been used in the national economic and defence development.
ICCAS has a rational and self-sustainable workforce in research and management with excellent quality and strong competitiveness. ICCAS now has 616 employees, including 12 Academicians of CAS, 5 TWAS fellows, 62 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 62 awardees of the“One Hundred Talent Project ” of the CAS. Furthermore, 9 ICCAS researcher teams have received the support of Innovative Team from National Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
Regarding organization, ICCAS is composed of three state key laboratories, eight CAS key laboratories, one advanced polymeric material center, and one Center for Physicochemical Analysis and Measurement.
Over the years, ICCAS has put great effort on the international cooperation and exchange. ICCAS also takes an active part in international exchange as a representative Chinese research institute. It continues to recruit and train internationalized young talents. Also, different international and regional collaborative programs have been implemented. These programs will become excellent platforms to show true essence of ICCAS as an eminent research institute to the world.
The institute puts great emphasis on international collaboration and academic exchange programs. Over the past five years, ICCAS has collaborated closely with many world-renowned academic societies such as the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). It has also cooperated with more than 20 research institutes and universities such as Max Planck Institute (German), Riken (Japan), Institute for Molecular Science (Japan), the University of Tokyo, and CSIRO (Australia), etc. In addition, ICCAS signed 33 cooperative agreements with internationally famous enterprises.
