Zeng Zhao-lun (1899-1967) Chemist.

Elected as CAS Academician in 1955.

Director of ICCAS (1955-1957).

     

      Chemist. Born in Xiangxiang , Hunan Province. Graduated from Tsinghua Shool in 1920 and received Ph.D. from MIT , USA in 1929. Professor, Department of Chemistry, Wuhan University , vice minister, Ministry of High Education, and director, Institute of Chemistry , Chinese Academy of Sciences.

      In his early years, Zeng was engaged in the research and education in inorganic preparation, elementary analysis of organic compounds, theoretical organic chemistry, molecular structures and chemistry of explosives. He devoted himself to elemento-organic chemistry in his late years. He contributed much to improving the quality of high education during the 1950s. He also put forward lots of good suggestions for the reform of Chinese scientific and technological system. He was enthusiastic about the activities of the academic societies and journals. He was one of the founders of Chinese Chemical Society established in the 1930s. He had been director of the Society for many years and acted as the chief editor of theJournal of the Chinese Chemical Societyfor over 20 years. He also contributed to the nomenclature of the chemical terms in Chinese.

      He became Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1955.
