  Speaker: Prof. Takashi Kato

  Address:Main Auditorium of  ICCAS

Takashi Kato is a full professor at the University of Tokyo. He received his BSc and Ph.D. at the University of Tokyo in 1983 and 1988, respectively. After his postdoctoral research at Cornell University with Professor Jean M. J. Frechet on supramolecular hydrogen-bonded liquid crystals and polymers, he joined the University of Tokyo. His research focuses on self-assembled functional materials including supramolecular liquid crystals, stimuli-responsive materials, nanostructured ion- and electron-active materials, and organic/inorganic hybrids. He is the recipient of The Chemical Society of Japan Award for Young Chemists (1993), The Sakurada Memorial Award of the Society of Fiber Science and Technology Japan (1993), The Wiley Polymer Science Award (Chemistry) 2001, the 17th IBM Japan Science Award (Chemistry) (2003), the 1st JSPS Prize (2005), and the Award of Japanese Liquid Crystal Society (2008). He has published about 300 papers including original papers, reviews, and chapters of books. He is advisory board of "Advanced Materials" and "Journal of Materials Chemistry", editorial board of "The Chemical Records", and an associate editor of "Polymer Journal".
