History of Graduate Student Program: ICCAS was the first batch of research institutions to recruits and train graduate students in China. Currently, ICCAS is one of the most influential graduate education bases in chemistry and materials sciences. ICCAS was approved as one of the first batch of master's degree and doctorate awarding units by Degrees Committee of the State Council in 1981. In 1985, it was approved one of the first batch of units that can set up postdoctoral research base; in 1996, it was approved one of the first batch of units that can award a degree as first-level discipline (chemistry);in 1997 it became an important training base for Ph.D. students of CAS, In 2006 it gained the highest score of 96 points in national chemistry first-level discipline assessment; in 2008 it was approved to award Ph.D. degree with material science major. From 1978 to end of 2012, 4680 graduate students graduated from ICCAS including 2045 masters and 2635 Ph.D. students. Currently, ICCAS have 931 graduate students including 270 masters and 661 Ph.D. candidates.
Training Policy: In graduate education, ICCAS emphasizes the importance of “scientific research and education”. Adhering to the principle of “People-oriented, scientific management, and comprehensive development”, ICCAS has established a graduate education system with strong faculty, complete research facilities, academic strengths and distinctive characteristics, perfect management system, and high quality training system. Several measures are taken to optimize graduate student training.
